Sorry for the ugly game, but I'm not an artist and made this while on my final term exams; I'm very happy with how my little battle system turned out :D I'd love to keep working on this, so keep updated!

I see a lot of potential. One can tell it's a prototype but also how you can easily expand on it! I think the visuals being pretty basic didn't make it any less fun. Keep Going!
Only problem I had was that the UI was a bit hard to understand. I didn't know how to attack for example or how to get back to the Sanctuary.
I think there's a lot of potential to expand on this game and I'm excited to see where it goes!
I see the potential of the battle system, but in its current state the game is not very playable.
Some improvement suggestions:
- Put the battle log in a scrollable panel so that the player can review what happened at their own pace and make the messages appear a lot faster. It's very tedious to wait a long time to get back into the action.
- Make it obvious when the game changes from free roaming to battle mode. A simple text on the top of the screen saying "In Battle" can suffice, but you could also add some sound effects, battle music and visual effects.
- Also make the actions panel appear as soon as you enter battle, with an option to move without attacking.
- Add a simple "game over" screen as well as a "victory" screen.
Keep up the good work! :)
Well, aside from the obvious.
I couldn't figure out how to attack. I think the UI for it is missing. So all you can really do is run away from the weird racecar shrimp one single square at a time. I did manage to reach Amelia Watson. She just disappears once I do.
Was something supposed to happen? I can tell it's unfinished but not how unfinished. I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here.
Kudos for having the guts to take on a GameJam during finals. Just don't overdo it.
